About to pop! The day I gave birth to my amazing daughter (now nine years old!)
On a reminiscing night with my kids we went through some old photo albums and stumbled across some pregnancy shots. Now, I wish I could tell you that I loved being pregnant, that I glowed, that I thought it was the most amazing time of my life… but the truth was nothing of the sort! I felt like the crappers during most of the 9 months or so. With my daughter, my second pregnancy, I vomited every day and felt sick for 32 weeks, had 2 weeks break and then went back to vomiting for the next 6 weeks! The sickness was like being in a continuous hang over!
I did exercise throughout my pregnancies. A lot of walking, weights and some swimming. But it was hard, I never felt that well. I was instructing classes up until 34 weeks (with modifications of course). I do know that maintaining some activity was good for my brain and helped to keep me sane!
I did crave salty foods and ate more ham and cheese toasted sandwiches than most people consume in a life time! The nutrition wasn’t perfect but it wasn’t terrible either. However, by the time my daughter was due the scales topped 20kgs above my normal weight. At 5 foot nothing, 20kgs looks about double that! I know I looked big because I was asked many times if I was having twins. Friends tried to be kind but when their eyes pop out looking at your belly you know exactly what they are thinking! The picture above shows how big and healthy my pregnancy belly was but not the size of my ass (oh la la it was a matching pair)!
After my daughter was born I had to work at my fitness. It wasn’t easy having 2 young children and no family around but I made the most of the opportunities I had. I was a new Mum after all; things wouldn’t always go to plan but exercising was high on my priority list – it made me a more patient, energised and happier Mum.
Obviously research tells us exercise and healthy eating are so important while pregnant. But often you have no control over how your body reacts while pregnant – some of us blow up like puffer fish others are have little basketballs out the front! That, you’ve just got to roll with! And just to let you know, your body can be even healthier, sexier, leaner and stronger AFTER babies! Your path to a healthy future with your baby is in your hands…
Stronger after 2 children and at age 44 years.
