Above: look how far we have come in such a short time – hard work, dedication, commitment and listening to the opinions that matter!
As the saying goes, opinions are like ….holes, everyone has them!
Sometimes you just need to walk away and ignore the opinions of others.
Easier said than done I know!
The fitness industry is fraught with ridiculous products that can “burn fat” and “transform your body in one week” while all you do is sit on an ab roller for 10 mins a day! People make millions convincing us that there product works…clever marketing, very opinionated, but not research based.
These opinions taunt you, entice you and even convince you to give it a go! If you are watching Dr Oz or an info commercial, walk away from the TV NOW! Sadly, the opinions of others can hinder our progress and it becomes really difficult when the opinion is from someone we love and is important in our lives.
Recently I have seen the impact that a mother’s opinion can have on her daughter, telling her to “hurry up and lose weight” – it is really hard to ignore the opinion of someone you love and focus on the science of fat loss!
It did make me think of a few “opinions” I have had ignored and a few I have taken on board to make and shape the person I am! My advice – for everyone that tries to stop your progress try to find someone who wants to project you forward! It doesn’t mean some peoples opinions don’t kick us in the guts because sometimes they truly do…Just get better at focussing on the positive; on the relative and on the REAL!
Here’s a few examples of builders and breakers…
- the councillor who told me NOT to build HH in Dodges Ferry to the amazing client’s that backed us before we even opened;
- the business advisor who told me HH would fail to the friend who thinks I am one of the bravest woman she knows;
- the IGA shop assistant who told me I’m too muscly to the clients who I motivate to get strong and build muscle;
- the fitness professional who knocked HH to the amazing community of professionals who continually build it up and ask me for advice;
- the principal who never wanted me to leave my teaching career to my husband who believes I can change the world!
Surround yourself with builders, not breakers! You just never know how far you far you can go!
