A picture of the power lines viewed from our house.
This blog is literally about power lines – you know the ones that bring power to you house…not any sort of line drawn in the sand to show a stand off about power! Actually the blog has nothing to do with power lines more about what they stand for…
A number of years ago when we first bought our house in Lewisham I can remember showing some friends through. I was so proud, we had made the big move (from one end of the state to the other) away from all of our family and friends. So when anyone visited it was exciting for us.
We live in such an amazing part of the world in beautiful Tasmania and we are lucky enough to have an ever changing water view.
Really our view is something else and even after living here for 15 years I still appreciate it. I can remember when we first went through the house (which might I add needed a lot of work) what sold it to me was the view when standing at the kitchen sink…aha… I thought, I could wash up here any day!
When I pointed out the view to the visiting friends instead of being greeted by the usual “ahhhs” and “ohhhhs” I got this:
“Too bad about the power lines…”
Up until that moment I hadn’t even seen the power lines and I felt that moment of disappointment; that kick in the guts when you are after someone’s “approval”. I had only seen water, boats, sun sets, sand dunes, snow on the mountain – happy, relaxing and fun!
Some years on I still see all of that plus more – I see memories of my family and friends – fishing, swimming, paddling, boating, playing and laughing – and I feel warm and content! I am not seeking someone else’s “approval” on what I feel, see or do.
Interestingly, my 12 year old son who was reading this over my shoulder as I was writing it said “What power lines? Why would they say that Mum?” (say no more)
At any situation at anytime in life we decide what we bring to it…what we see and how we act. A giver or a taker – sunshine or clouds. Don’t be the person that people turn up to your funeral only for the sausage rolls!
Seriously, time to stop looking at he power lines …
